Overview

Colony NorthStar, Inc. (NYSE: CLNS) is looking for a Controller to serve as a key leader of the Irvine accounting team to help with financial reporting, identifying and implementing operational best practices, performing/assisting with financial analyses, and co-managing (jointly with another Controller) an accounting team of more than 10 professionals. This Controller will interact with accounting and investment professionals located in our various US and international offices, and with senior management of the Company. 

This Controller will report to the Vice President leading the Irvine accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review the month-end closing process including reviewing journal entries, lead schedules and consolidated financial reports in adherence with GAAP
  • Develop and improve processes and timing of monthly close, perform analytical review of monthly operating results and accounting workbooks, and ensure compliance with SOX
  • Review monthly accruals, monthly and quarterly reporting, and cash projections.
  • Review and monitor consolidation/elimination entries to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Promote and ensure consistency in the treatment of accounting transactions
  • Lead, mentor, and train the accounting team
  • Assist with the preparation of the company’s annual budget, monitor operating results, and update forecasts
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors
  • Review and sign off on payments to external vendors and internal cash transfers
  • Develop process improvements with the goal of gaining efficiencies in day to day operations

Qualifications

  • High level of integrity
  • Possess more than 9 years of progressive accounting experience including experience as a Controller or equivalent role
  • Strong GAAP knowledge required
  • CPA license required; inactive license is acceptable
  • Experience managing accounting teams and employees
  • Real estate or financial services industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in investment management or private equity environment is desirable
