Overview

CLNS – Colony NorthStar, Inc., a leading global real estate and investment management firm, seeks a senior analyst to support CLNS’ retail platform of managed REITs and closed-end funds. CLNS, with $56 billion of real estate assets under management, is one of the largest independent real estate asset managers globally.

 

The Alternative Products team manages CLNS’ retail companies, including commercial real estate-focused REITs and closed-end funds with $6.8 billion of assets under management. The group is responsible for the successful operation of CLNS’ entire retail platform, including fund-level financial analysis and projections, new fund development and administration, corporate governance matters, fund marketing, portfolio oversight and investment strategy.  The team works closely with CLNS’s senior executives in developing fund strategy, managing investor relations and analyzing the financial performance of its managed companies. Analysts will be active members of the team by assisting with financial analysis, internal management reporting, board presentations, and various business development initiatives.

 

This position will be located in the company’s New York City office and the analyst will report directly to the Managing Director on the Alternative Products team.

Responsibilities

  • Corporate Financial Modeling: Utilize Excel to develop financial forecasts and analyses to assess the performance of the CLNS’s retail business, including cash flow and balance sheet projections for each of its managed REITs and closed-end funds.
  • Portfolio Composition & Investment Alternatives: Support the development of fund-level investment strategies based on current portfolio composition and performance and market opportunities.  Analyze impact of new investments on fund-level Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flows. 
  • Valuation Analysis: Manage fund-level valuation processes, including the development of internal valuation estimates and engaging third-party experts to conduct extensive portfolio valuations.
  • Corporate Governance: Assist with the execution of corporate governance matters for all managed funds, including the development of board presentations, board and committee meeting management and other functions as needed.
  • Marketing & Investor Relations: Assist team in preparation for investor calls through development of external reports and supplemental financial analyses.
  • Work closely with investments, portfolio management, accounting, marketing and legal teams to coordinate fund-level operations.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a financial analyst role at an investment bank, real estate investment manager or other financial services firm
  • Strong academic credentials with demonstrated quantitative capabilities
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills that would place them in the top of their peer group, this position will extensively utilize both software tools daily
  • Ability to perform extremely well when faced with managing multiple priorities under time constraints
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage information flow
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work on independent tasks
  • A long term focus on developing a career in the real estate and finance industries within a growing and entrepreneurial company
